Quid — Finance Tracker

A personal fintech product, designed, owned, and shipped end-to-end, using AI as a design and build partner to deliver a working, live product.

Project Overview

Industry: Fintech, Personal Finance
My Role: Product Designer + Product Owner

Relocating between countries fragments your financial life. Accounts across two markets, expenses in different currencies, income and obligations out of sync. Most personal finance tools are built around a single market and a single context and were never designed for this kind of transition. There was no product that could give a clear, consolidated view of a financial life split across two countries.

Quid was built to solve that gap. A single dashboard that holds everything, regardless of where the account sits or what currency it runs in.

Directing AI as an Engineering Resource

Rather than writing code, I acted as designer and product owner, directing Claude as the build resource. Concept to deployed product in under seven days.

  • Direction over generation — every structural, architectural and visual decision was mine. I set the constraints, judged the output, caught the edge cases, drove the refactors.

  • Usage-driven scope — features were added only when I hit the need. Subscription tracking after a near-miss annual renewal; trend charts once I needed to see savings over time.

  • Rapid validation — no wireframing detour; hypotheses tested straight away in production with live data.

Technical Architecture

A lightweight, serverless setup — an AI-built frontend talking directly to cloud services.

Frontend : a single self-contained HTML file. No frameworks, no build step.
Backend & Auth: Supabase (PostgreSQL + row-level security).
Hosting: Netlify, static with continuous deployment.
Exchange data: live GBP/SGD currency API with a cached fallback.
Code: Claude generated the full codebase under my direction.

Outcomes & Real-World Impact

Live within seven days, and it replaced my spreadsheet immediately.

  • In daily use as my primary financial overview.

  • Saved real money caught a forgotten annual subscription before it auto-renewed.

  • One view across both regions' accounts, investments and bills for the first time.

  • Changed my habits clear cross-currency cost-of-living finally made discretionary spending visible.

What building this way taught me

Quid reset my sense of how fast a designer can now reach a real, testable product. Removing the execution friction changes the process you go straight from strategy to a working build, skip the speculative wireframing, and put all the energy on solving the actual problem. It also showed me where AI genuinely accelerates the work and where it needs firm direction to stay on track.

Version 1 of the app had one goal: a tool I could rely on. It cleared that bar, and it's an ongoing project the next step is opening it up to my family member to use and test.
